Mid-century petite vase by Jean Gerbino, made in Vallauris, France and executed in his signature mosaic technique with finely assembled mixed clay segments (terre mêlée) creates a vibrant marquetry-like effect within the body of the piece itself. The urn shaped form features interesting geometric motifs and could stand alone as an art piece or used for arranging a small flower bouquet. Marked on the bottom. This piece reflects the enduring appeal of Vallauris ceramic art and is a wonderful addition for collectors of mid-century and French art pottery. Jean Gerbino (1876–1966) was a master ceramist based in Vallauris whose meticulously assembled polychrome clay mosaics earned him international acclaim.
